Curator's Statement
Breeze at Night - A Non-Solo of June Wong in association with Amie Chan, Carol Chow and Winsome Wong, takes as its starting point hand-drawn pencil sketches and animations. These mediums are employed to capture the fleeting, often unnoticed moments of daily life -the ephemeral movements, subtle changes, and quiet rhythms that form the texture of routine existence. The works highlight how these seemingly mundane details imbue our lives with unique nuances and meaning. Frame by frame, June Wong documents these instances, transforming them into sketches and short animations that are both deeply personal and widely resonant, reflecting the collective emotions of artists and individuals from Hong Kong.
In addition to feature artist June Wong, this exhibition showcases three other Hong Kong-based female artists working across diverse mediums: ceramics, photography, and media art installations. A unifying thread among the artists is their exploration of repetition and its capacity to generate variation. This theme runs through each body of work, inviting viewers to contemplate the interplay between iteration and transformation across artistic practices.
Amie Chan, a ceramic artist, contributes works that expand traditional conceptions of pottery and ceramic sculpture. Instead, she employs ceramics as a painterly medium, using textures and glazes to create tactile works that are both grounded and visually poetic.
Winsome Wong revisits an experimental documentary from her earlier career, creating a series of iterations over twenty revisions. For this exhibition, she presents three stages of this evolving process, combining abstract imagery derived from these iterations into installation pieces. Her work underscores the role of repetition not only in media art signals but also in the recursive actions of viewing, editing, and refining.
The exhibition progresses with Carol Chow's exploration of Al-generated imagery, where simple visuals conceal the process of their creation. Through the adjustment and rephrasing of prompts, the artist shapes the algorithmic output, demonstrating how repetition- in the form of iterative refinement-becomes a fundamental element of contemporary creativity. These works prompt a deeper reflection on the evolving relationship between technology and artistic expression.
Through these four distinct approaches to repetition, emerging across varying mediums, materials, and creative methods, the exhibition presents a rich and layered collection of works. It offers a glimpse into the evolving landscape of contemporary Hong Kong art, bringing this dynamic perspective to Stockholm and beyond. While the hybridity of Hong Kong's art scene may make its roots challenging to delineate -blending Eastern, Western, and global influences —it is precisely this hybridity that defines its distinctive character.

Non-Solo Exhibition Series
The Non-Solo exhibition series, an ongoing project by Projekt, reimagines the traditional solo exhibition format by incorporating guest artists to create a platform for dialogue and collaboration. The initiative broadens the scope of artistic exploration, fostering connections across disciplines and perspectives. Following the success of the 2021 edition, which featured four exhibitions in distinctive venues across Hong Kong, the series embarked on an international journey in 2024. This global expansion brings the voices of Hong Kong artists to artist-run spaces worldwide, forging new cultural exchanges and offering fresh insights into the city's dynamic creative community.
